Scientific Lecture: REVIEW OF THERMAL MANAGEMENT METHODS OF POWER ELECTRONICS IN ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Abstract: Effective thermal management of power electronics in electric vehicles is essential for reliability and increased power density. Currently, traditional cooling technologies such as cold plates and heat sinks have been utilized by the automotive industry. As the next generation of power electronics implements wide-bandgap devices, however, increased heat fluxes will require more advanced cooling strategies. More efficient cooling systems are an enabler for the increase in power density in an electric traction motor. Contemplating to existing reviews, this webinar will present a comprehensive collection of heat transfer mechanisms for the different heat removal techniques used in electric traction devices. In this webinar, an overview of various cooling concepts in existing and future traction motors will be presented, and the cooling approaches will be compared.
